Beliefs

Doctrine matters. We are called as ministers to:

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

2 Timothy 4:2

Fundamental Beliefs

Our doctrinal beliefs align mostly with the Assemblies of God

1. **The Scriptures Inspired**: The Bible is divinely inspired, serving as the infallible guide for faith and life¹.

2. **The Trinity**: God is revealed as the eternal "I AM," the Creator and Redeemer. He is eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit¹.

3. **The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ**: Jesus Christ, God's Son, is fully divine, embodying God's presence and power¹.

8. **The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit**: Speaking in tongues is the initial sign of receiving the Holy Spirit's baptism¹.

9. **Sanctification**: Believers are called to lead holy lives that honor God, enabled by the Holy Spirit¹.

10. **The Church and Its Mission**: The Church exists to carry out Christ's mission on earth, spreading the gospel and demonstrating God's love¹.

14. **The Reign of Christ**: Christ will return to reign on earth, fulfilling God's promises¹.

15. **The Final Judgment**: There will be a final judgment where the righteous will be rewarded and the wicked punished¹.

16. **The New Heavens and the New Earth**: God promises a new creation where righteousness dwells and believers will live forever¹.

Stance on Doctrinal Controversies

Prosperity Gospel

Say, “Lack, I speak to you in Jesus’ name. I command you to get out of my life. I break your power over my affairs and forbid you to operate against me. Jesus came that I might have life and have it more abundantly. I am willing and obedient; so according to God’s Word, I eat the fat of the land. I am not willing to live in lack. I am willing to live in abundance. I am an heir to the promise of Abraham. I am exceedingly blessed financially.”

Pg 142

The Copelands stated this in their book God’s Will is Prosperity a Roadmap to Spiritual, Emotional, Financial Wholeness By Gloria Copeland

Does the Bible promise that we can be extravagantly wealthy in this life?

We must sternly reject the distortions of the prosperity gospel. **Hebrews 13:5** commands, "Be content with what you have; for He Himself has said, 'I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.'" This is not a mere suggestion but a divine mandate to resist the love of money. **Philippians 4:11** echoes this sentiment, as Paul states, "I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am." And **1 Timothy 6:5-6** chastises those who believe godliness is a means to gain, declaring, "Godliness with contentment is great gain." We brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out. Let us then adhere to these truths, spurning the false promises of wealth and embracing a life of genuine contentment in Christ.

Word of Faith Movement

Noted Word of Faith teachers, such as Kenneth E. Hagin and Charles Capps, have argued that God created the universe by speaking it into existence, and that God has endowed believers with this power. Thus, making a "positive confession" of God's promise and believing God's word stirs the power of resurrection which raised Christ from the dead, and brings that promise to fulfillment. This teaching is interpreted from Mark 11:22–23. A more recent variant of positive confession is "decree and declare". Word of Faith preachers have called faith a "force.

Conversely, "negative confession" is believed to be harmful, and so it is taught that believers should be conscious of their words. This is argued on the interpretation of Proverbs 18:21,"Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and they that love them will eat the fruit thereof", and also Numbers 14:28,"...saith the Lord, as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do", among other scriptures.

Can we "decree" & "declare"?

The Word of Faith movement, with its emphasis on prosperity and health as signs of faith, stands in stark contrast to the core Christian doctrine that emphasizes humility, suffering, and the sovereignty of God. The Apostle Paul warns us, "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine... They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths" (2 Timothy 4:3-4). This movement's teachings often mirror New Thought metaphysics, which wrongly suggests that positive confession can influence reality—a concept foreign to Scripture. True faith is not a tool to command God's blessings but a humble submission to His divine will, as exemplified by Christ Himself (Philippians 2:5-8). As believers, we must uphold the truth of the Gospel, which teaches us to "live a life worthy of the calling [we] have received" (Ephesians 4:1), not to pursue earthly wealth and comfort at the expense of spiritual fidelity. We do not have faith in “our faith”. Instead our faith is in the character of God.

Divine Healing

All will be healed of all illness, disease, and praise God death: at the resurrection of Christ. All other healings in this life are “temporary” & not guaranteed. This does not diminish healing or faith. It should raise it since we know God’s revealed Will is healing at some point in the life of the believer: either at the resurrection or during our physical life.

Method of Ministry

  • Expositional preaching. I follow Bryan Chapell's Christ-centered expositional preaching method.

    • This is NOT merely commenting on every verse or sentence.

    • This method is built on the conviction that every passage of Scripture has one main idea or 'big idea' that reflects the redemptive work of Christ. This central theme is the anchor of the sermon, ensuring that the message remains focused and coherent.

    • By identifying this 'big idea,' the preacher can articulate how the text displays our human problem—sin and separation from God—and God's solution through Christ's atoning work.

    • This method ensures that Christ's redemptive narrative is woven throughout the sermon, making it not only relevant and applicable to the listeners but also a true reflection of the biblical text's intent.

    • The 'big idea' serves as the thesis of the sermon, guiding the preacher to remain within the scope of the text and to consistently point to Christ as the center of our faith and the answer to our deepest needs

  • Avoidance of legalism. Legalism can be two forms:

    • [Jesus + “anything” = salvation or staying saved.] This is a mockery of Christ’s blood (Gal 2:21) Ultimately we are saved and kept by faith alone.

    • [Our application of scripture is the “only” application.] Our application of scripture might be a good idea but is not on the same level as the authority of scripture. If scripture does not state clearly an application on a topic, then it must be seen as a matter of Christian liberty.

  • Avoidance of lawlessness

    • Faith alone saves but saving faith is never alone. If you really believe Christ is Lord you will surrender to His teachings.

    • Salvation is always accompanied with the indwelling of the Holy Ghost. Therefore you will begin to walk in obedience to the guidance of the Spirit. This guidance will be according to Scripture.

  • Those who are saved are becoming like Christ through prayer & the Word.

  • We seek to encourage the saints to persevere. We must not forfeit our salvation as Hebrews 6 warns against.

  • We seek to challenge believers to a higher devotion to Christ.

  • We seek to convict lazy believers to leave idleness.
